Brandon Norsted’s Bevege Felt Chair
is a combination of recycled industrial felt, fibreglass and resin. The
felt is impregnated with epoxy and sandwiches several layers of fiberglass in order
to keep its form, thereby avoiding the need for any armatures or
framework underneath. Official site of Brandon Norsted HERE.
Designer Tobias Wong's Sun Jar is a whimsical and charming piece of work. Solar panels and a rechargeable battery stores energy to power an amber-glowing bulb that lights up when it gets dark. (Check out the schematic below.) Get it here at Charles & Marie.
I love this "water rug" by artist/designer Mark Beam. It's really beautiful and fun. Seen at MoCo Loco. Official site: MarkBeam.com. Also at MoCo Loco is this interesting tably by Victor Vetterlein. Designed to be an art piece for your entry way, it has a sphere where you can throw in your keys, coins, etc. A orange glow illuminates the storage sphere as well as projecting a beam up to the ceiling. Nice.
This amazing stool was designed by Patrick Jouin in 2006. Called the One Shot.Mgx it was purchased by NYC MoMA for their collection. The crazy thing is that this stool is a single, non-assembled unit that you simply press down in the center to untwist it into its functional form. Hurry though because there's o
nly one available here at UnicaHOME. Only $3960!
Nice ceramic desk clock by designer Marianne Abelsson. I can see this one looking nice anywhere in your home. Made of ceramic and found at Design My World. Check out Marianne's bio at Design House Stockholm, along with various other artists.
So my doctor friend has finally finished residency and landed a real job! Woohoo! Now she can start paying back all her school loans! Anyways, in the past few months they have finally found a house here in the bay area and are furnishing it as we speak. I suggested a store called Space Control (awesome name for a furniture company) in Palo Alto that specializes in modern, stylish furnishings at reasonable costs. And, by the way, let me just say that the Design Within Reach store across the street is so NOT within reach. But I digress. Space Control is located in downtown Palo Alto on University Ave. Check out their website HERE. Best to stop by though because the online site doesn't do the store itself justice.
I found this beautiful chrome-plated ceramic bowl on the MoMA store website HERE. It is by designer Kevin Williams, and would be a dramatic piece to display on any table. I love the shadows and reflections created by the chrome, as well as the form, reminiscent of a water splash.
Simple credit card sized bottle opener fits in your wallet. The cut out / negative space doubling as the "O" in the word OPEN adds an interesting design element. Found at Rare Device, an online store featuring artists that specialize in products in a style along the lines of
modern arts & crafts.
If I had a long hallway (or a large enough room for that matter) I'd have this clock. This double-sided station wall clock from C2B shows you the time whether you're coming or going. With all that time, it only uses one AA battery. See for yourself Here.
Here are two cups by Israeli designer Efrat Gommeh. The first is for the paranoid personality in you. It's a mug with a purposefully placed hole, which needs to be plugged by the "key" in order for the cup to function. The second is a whimsical espresso cup with a concave secret compartment that houses a small cookie surprise for the drinker to discover!
