BMW To Annouce iPhone Integration Today

This afternoon, BMW will be the first automaker to announce a fully integrated system for Apple's brand-new iPhone.  BMW supposedly has a 6 month exclusive contract with Apple to be the only automaker to have iPhone integration, with other companies following suit afterwards.  Initially, BMW will only offer integration for U.S. models, but with international sales of the iPhone a given, BMW is likely to extend the technology across to other markets. Diesel Wows Show Goers With Holographic Catwalk

Diesel fashion house wowed crowds recently with a show entitled  "Liquid Space."

Via Cool Hunting: The show played with concepts of metamorphosis as strange hybrid forms of man, machine and sea creature appeared to float through space. Weaving their way around the actual models, these creatures transformed into animated models wearing the collection and then the clothes dissolved into millions of glittering fishes. The format and style of the traditional fashion show has been played with by many designers, but with this show Diesel moved into a new creative realm, combining fashion and 3D animation technology in front of a live audience.

Books For The Summer

So I just picked out two books yesterday that I'm going to hopefully enjoy.  The first is Carl Hiassen's Skinny Dip (May, 2006), the second is Haruki Murakami's After Dark (May, 2007).  If anyone has read either of these, I'd love to hear what you have to say about them. 

Chinese Knock-Offs

Here in Silicon Valley there are a lot of Asians.  A LOT.  And where ever there are Asians, there are Asian supermarkets - one of the best places to peruse for weird foods and knock-off products.  Take for example the following items that caught my eye today at my local Ranch 99 market.  The first is a chicken drink.  No, it's not some sort of chicken soup.  It is, in fact, a chicken DRINK.  On the box it says "Essence of Chicken Drink is formulated using quality chicken and is specially formulated for easy absorption and digestion by the human body.  This nutritious product contains no preservatives and is cholesterol and fat free."  Oh, and by the way, a free dinner plate comes with the 6-bottle pack.  Perhaps it's just chicken broth, lost in translation?  Who knows.  But, drinking chicken juice from a bottle just isn't appetizing to me.
    Next, I found a new brand of products from a company called "IKEDA."  Just one look at their logo and you'll see what I'm talking about.  This is a blatant rip off of the "IKEA" logo.  Classic.

I Despise Speed Traps

  I hate speed traps, especially when they are in perfect straight-aways with low traffic and no pedestrians.  I was caught once two years ago at midnight on July 31st.  MIDNIGHT.  I failed to make a complete stop at a stop sign, instead opting for a "California roll."  The cop was right there, waiting to make his July quota.  Well, no more.  Not with the National Motorists Association on my side.  One stop to their website Speedtrap.org and you'll know where favorite speedtraps are in your local area.  You can even contribute to the growing list of locales.  There are even tips for you activists on how to fight against these speedtraps.  Thanks, NMA!

Commi-Chic Hotel Opens In Berlin

I like boutique hotels for their individualistic styles, which can range from the cheeky to the uber-trendy.  Enter the Ostel hotel, who's aesthetic is down right, well, drab.  Located in Berlin, Ostel harks back to more desolate, cement-walled, eastern bloc times with starkly finished rooms with names such as the "Stasi Suite" and the "Pioneer Camp."  The hotel was started by two former East German circus performers and is furnished with communist era relics the two managed to scrounge from old private homes and store rooms of furniture dealers, including portraits of former Socialist Unity Party leaders.  In the lobby you'll find clocks displaying times for Moscow, Berlin, Havana, and Beijing. Vatican Issues 10 Commandments of Driving

Just when you thought the world couldn't get crazier the Vatican goes and does something like this.  If you read through the following ten commandments from the "Guidelines for the Pastoral Care of the Road" issued by the Vatican today you'll see that they are pretty much principles of any careful and conscientious  driver with a kind heart.  This is a good example of principles that do not require religion to teach us.  Sane and logical parenting will do.

The Ten Commandments for road use are as follows:

• 1. You shall not kill.
• 2. The road shall be for you a means of communion between people and not of mortal harm.
• 3. Courtesy, uprightness and prudence will help you deal with unforeseen events.
• 4. Be charitable and help your neighbor in need, especially victims of accidents.
• 5. Cars shall not be for you an expression of power and domination, and an occasion of sin.
• 6. Charitably convince the young and not-so-young not to drive when they are not in a fit condition to do so.
• 7. Support the families of accident victims.
• 8. Bring guilty motorists and their victims together, at the appropriate time, so that they can undergo the liberating experience of forgiveness.
• 9. On the road, protect the more vulnerable party.
• 10. Feel responsible towards others.
