Boredom Hurts

    Videos haven't made me laugh this much in a while.  Check out the Boredom Hurts site.  Once there, click on the computer monitor in the right lower corner and it'll take you to the vids.  "Tape Girl" is an instant CLASSIC.  Ebaumsworld is still more comprehensive though.

Stand In The Place Where You Are...Now Face West

    Where in the world would you end up if you were to walk in a straight line in a particular direction?  Here's a website that will tell you:  www.map.talleye.com.  It's a Google Maps mashup that allows you to pick a direction and see on a mercator projection map the course it would take you around the world if you were to continue walking in that direction!  So, for example, if I wanted to walk from SF to Tokyo, I would go roughly 300 degrees NW.  Good to know.

Instructables: Share What You Make and How Others Can Make It

Instructables is fast becoming one of my favorite websites to spend waste time on.  It's a DYI collaborative in which you can peruse through hundreds of weird to whacky to practical things that people have created and learn how to make them yourself.  You can also contribute to the library or participate in discussions on each individual project that's been posted.  Not that a computer mouse outfitted with a real taxidermied mouse or an exploding volcano chocolate cake is necessarily something I'd want to actually undertake.  Most of the projects are at least entertaining.  There are some great and practical ideas on there.  See them here: www.instructables.com

For Mom (Idea #5)

    If there was ever a baking gadget (aside from the oven) this would be it.  It's a nonstick aluminum baking pan in the shape of a beehive.  Simply pour in the batter, bake, and press the two halves together when they're done and voila!  It's even adorned with cute little bees.  Shouldn't all Geeks have this in their kitchen?  Saw it here at Williams Sonoma.

The Healthy Alternative (Mother's Day Gift Idea #4)

    Okay, so I know these look cheesy and all, but I actually had one last night!  Someone brought one in at work and we devoured it in less than 5 minutes.  I was pretty impressed when I first saw it in person-it looked very nice (not at all corny like this picture).  I don't think the concept really translates well via photography.  Anyhow, the fruit was sweet, fresh, and delicious.  Check them out here: Edible Arrangements.  (Not recommended for diabetics)

Mother's Day Present #3

    So I was hesitant about blogging this item when I saw it a couple of weeks ago at my local Brookstone store, but I think it would actually make a nice Mother's Day present.  I guess it's pretty gadgety for the non-gadget-inclined.  It's a nice little LCD display / keychain that has 8mb of internal memory which will hold about 50 pictures.  Can't you just picture (no pun intended) every soccer mom with one of these?   More info here: Brookstone.
